Revenge of the Sith

What do you think of the recently-announced title, Star Wars: Episode III: Revenge of the Sith?

  • I love it!
  • I hate it!
  • Eh, it’s OK, but I would’ve preferred something like Rise of the Empire – 1
  • Who cares? It’s Star Wars!
  • I wish they had gone with something classy, like Vader Lives! or When Sithspawn Attack! – 3

  1. Lucas once said in an interview that the original title for Return of the Jedi was Revenge of the Jedi, but he decided that the Jedi weren’t about revenge. I guess it’s what Sith are all about, eh?

    *cough* Recycling *cough*

Oy vey. At least he isn’t trying to top a great title like Attack of the Clones.

    1. Revenge!

Oh, yeah. They had promo art and everything. I’m willing to bet my parents still have a few posters and buttons with “Revenge of the Jedi” on them.

The first T-shirts with the title went onsale literally minutes after it was announced — and they’re done with the same red-on-black look as the classic Return of the Jedi logo. (Sean can tell you more, since he actually made it to the panel.)

I’m not sure I’d really call it recycling, though. I’d actually call it symmetry.

The thing that does bug me is this: revenge implies a reaction. Someone has wronged you, and you’re getting them back. If it’s just Palpatine and crew taking over, that’s a victory, but not revenge. My best guess so far: the Jedi nearly wiped out the Sith millennia ago (there’s a remark about them being “extinct” in Ep I), and the Sith have long memories.
