Don’t ask me questions, just fix it!

Last Wednesday. Customer sends email to complain about spam. Asks, “Is spam filteirng even on this account? It’s getting 100s of spams a day!”

Investigate: yes, filtering is working. It’s blocking roughly 500 messages a day. Only about 50 messages per day actually make it to the client’s inbox, and that’s including obviously legit mail. Respond with detailed breakdown, a couple of options, and some questions about certain senders.

No response to my questions. Not about the specific senders. Not about which of two options they want us to put in place. Nothing.

Last Thursday: Client says their IT person wants to know if they’ve “been reported as a spam location.” Investigate: no sign of any complaints or listings. Respond with info, ask if they’re having problems sending. “No, just the 100s of spams per day that so-and-so is getting.” Sure. If by “hundreds” you mean “ten to twenty.” “My hair hurts!” Respond asking again about specific senders, and again on the X or Y question.

Nothing.

Monday: I send a follow-up question on the senders.

Nothing.

Thursday: I send a follow-up question on the options I proposed.

Nothing.

Apparently I’m supposed to be dumb enough to believe them when they exaggerate, but smart enough to be able to tell which newsletters they signed up for and which they didn’t.

    1. Amazingly, I got a response this afternoon. It was along the lines of “I’ve been busy with a major project,” but at least it’s something.
