I just got back from the dentist, where I had a filling replaced. Strangely, the numbness from the novocaine spread to just under my eye socket, making it feel as if my eyelid was numb!

That’s insane! Did they give you the shot through the roof of your mouth or something?!?!?!?!
No, just into the gums above the tooth – which is an upper molar, second from the back. Now that I think about it, it was probably closer to my eye than through the roof of the mouth would have been.
That wouldn’t do it, so far as my experience tells me. I may have said so already, but I have the dubious distinction of being one of a small population with three nerves rather than two supplying the tooth (teeth, actually, if you count both sides of the mouth) in question, and as such I need three shots to numb it. The third shot goes somewhere in the roof of the mouth, and hasn’t numbed my eye in either case so far as I can remember.
